Get to know more about the captivating singer-songwriter and actor in this exclusive interview.
Yoon Seobin, or simply Seobin, has melted fans’ hearts on and off the screen with his charismatic personality, unwavering dedication, and one heck of a swoon-worthy presence.
Korean BL’s fans fell in love with him through his main roles in Kissable Lips (2021) as the pure-blooded human Min Hyun and in the recent Roommates of Poongduck 304 (2022) as the marketing intern and merciless villa owner Seo Jae Yoon. He has also showcased his acting skills in non-BL dramas, appearing in supporting and guest roles in several popular dramas in recent years, such as The Mermaid Prince: The Beginning (2020), Not Found Love (2021), and a guest role in May It Please The Court (2022).
In addition to his acting career, Seobin is also a highly talented singer-songwriter. He made his singing debut on December 14, 2021, with the special single “Starlight.” This was followed by his subsequent solo projects Beautiful (2022), 100% (2022), Full Of You (2023), and his latest release, Love Is Like A Wave. Furthermore, he flexed his skills, writing, producing, and singing OSTs for the K-Dramas “Touch Me If You Can,” “Summer Guys,” and “Kissable Lips.”
To commemorate the release of his third digital single, Love Is Like A Wave, we had the chance to catch up with Yoon Seobin on his career as an idol-actor thus far. During our conversation, we learned some fascinating facts, so make sure to read the interview until the end.
Hellokpop: Congratulations on the release of your third single, “Love Is Like A Wave!” Can you briefly explain the title track? What do you hope to share with fans through your new music?
SEOBIN: This song is based on the theme that when you find someone you love, your heart flutters like a wave. Through “Love Is Like A Wave,” I wanted to share with my fans how much I love this work and how passionate I am.
HKP: Between music and acting, you must be really busy. What does a typical day look like for you?
SEOBIN: I think I am learning every day. In particular, I think I learn acting every day as an actor. Small emotions and events feel like learning to me.
HKP: How do you usually relax after a long day?
SEOBIN: I usually watch Netflix or play on my phone while lying in bed. I also listen to YouTube and music.
HKP: You recently performed on Show Champion and M Countdown. How was it preparing to perform backstage? Were you nervous? Excited?
SEOBIN: I was nervous, excited, and worried. Since it was my first time, I think I had more thoughts than usual. I think I was especially nervous during “M Countdown.” But the biggest thing was the excitement because it was my first opportunity to showcase myself on a music show.
HKP: As a multi-talented artist, how do you manage to give your best in all of your endeavors?
SEOBIN: If you have dreams and confidence, you have no choice but to do your best. I have a solid dream in my field, so if I pursue my dream, I can find myself doing my best.
HKP: Do you have a special technique, your own method for analyzing lines or stage directions when preparing for a role?
SEOBIN: I take time to keep a diary of my role. I write a diary thinking that I became that role. And as that character, I organize what I like and dislike.
HKP: What influenced you to pursue a career as an idol?
SEOBIN: I started out as an idol through street casting, but I think I started to dream bigger while watching idol seniors’ performances and concerts.
HKP: What’s your fondest memory or moment while filming one of your web dramas?
SEOBIN: In the drama “Kissable Lips,” I liked the scene where Minhyun’s character met his opponent, Junho, at the end. When I was filming that scene, I remember having the most touching and profound emotions.
HKP: OSTs have a range of emotions and stories. We imagine it must be difficult to write one, let alone you’ve written and composed three! Could you talk us through the process of writing an OST? Is it different from how you approach writing music for yourself?
SEOBIN: Working on OSTs has always been fun. They definitely have a specific story, and I think they are more fun and the color is more vivid because I put music on them. So, I am able to imagine various things while composing an OST, and I really enjoyed that process. Personally, I think OSTs are easier than other compositions.
HKP: Do you tend to get inspiration to write your songs from personal experiences or from sources outside of yourself?
SEOBIN: Both. Sometimes, I get inspiration from movies I’ve seen or books I’ve read, and sometimes, I get inspiration from emotions or situations I’ve actually experienced.
HKP: What are you hoping to accomplish next now that you’ve released “Love Is Like A Wave”? Any short-term or long-term goals?
SEOBIN: I think I will continue to do music activities in the future.
HKP: What are your plans for the coming months? Can you give us any spoilers?
SEOBIN: A fan meeting is scheduled, and after the fan meeting, I think I will continue working on a new song. Also, since I am constantly working on songs, new songs may come out, and although it is not certain, some works that have already been filmed may be released. There are also opportunities to meet overseas fans in person.
HKP: Thanks so much for speaking with us! Please share a message for your fans around the world.
SEOBIN: Thank you so much for your love and interest in “Love Is Like A Wave.” Thank you so much for enjoying the good results as much as I prepared really hard. I will tell you more diverse and colorful stories in the future. Trust me and love me a lot. Thank you!
