The Wizard is one of many different pre-made magic-based classes in Divinity: Original Sin II, but what makes this class different from the rest? The Wizard class, unlike other classes such as the cleric and enchanter, has no supporting skill lines to start. As such it is meant to be a devastating glass canon class.

The Wizard starts with the Pyrokinetic and Geomancer skill lines. These skills give the Wizard power over fiery destruction, oil spills, earthquakes, and poison. Which offers an explosive combination of skills.
Skill Lines and Skills to Invest in with theWizard in Divinity: Original Sin II
Due to the skill lines that the Wizard starts with there are several directions that the player could take the class in with an added skill line. If the player wants to keep the class explosive, dangerous, and destructive, adding Warfare may be a good option. If the player wants to balance the class by allowing it to support itself a skill line like Polymorph or Necromancer should be considered.
Warfare:
- Battering Ram - Dash forward in a line that deals 50% physical damage and knocks down enemies who do not have any physical armor.
- Battle Stomp - The player slams their weapon into the ground dealing 60% physical damage to enemies in front of them and knocking down those who do not have any physical armor. Also clears non-cursed statuses from the ground.
- Blitz Attack - Attack that teleports the player from one enemy to another adjacent enemy dealing 70% damage on each.
- Enrage - Motivated a target critical hits for that player.
- Phoenix Dive - Teleport that deals fire damage to who the player teleports next to while clearing a non-cursed surface status.
- Whirlwind - Small AOE around the player dealing 100% damage to all within the area.
- Challenge - Marks an enemy target. If the target dies within the next two rounds, the player will be healed and receive armor bonuses.
- Onslaught - Attack five separate times, each one dealing 60% damage.
- Thick of the Fight - Grants the player a damage bonus for each character around them.
Polymorph:
- Tentacle Lash - Turns the player's arm into a tentacle and hitting a targeted enemy for 125% physical damage and setting atrophy on the enemy.
- Bull Horns - Summons horns unto the player's head granting them the skill, Bull's Rush.
- Heart of Steel - Regenerates the player's physical armor.
- Skin Graft - Resets all of the player's cooldowns. It also removes burning, necrofire, poisoned, and bleeding.
- Summon Oily Blob - Summons an amorphous blob of oil to attack the player's enemies.
- Medusa Head - Summons a head of snakes that give the player a petrifying aura and the petrifying visage skill.
- Flay Skin - Destroys magical armor and halves all resistances on a target.
- Flaming Skin - Grants immunity to fire damage, weakens the player against water-based magic, and causes the player to bleed fire. This lasts for two rounds.
- Poisonous Skin - Grants immunity to poison damage and halves the player's resistance to air damage. The player bleeds poison and lasts for two days.
- Terrain Transmutation - Trade the statuses on two different spots of land.
Necromancer:
- Blood Sucker - The player can absorb puddles of blood around them to heal themselves.
- Mosquito Swarm - Summon a swarm of mosquitos to attack a target dealing physical damage and causing them to bleed if they do not have physical armor.
- Raining Blood - Summons a cloud to rain blood and cause characters caught in the storm to gain the bleeding status if they do not have physical armor.
- Infect - Deals physical damage and sets diseased for two rounds if the target is missing their physical armor.
- Silencing Stare - Destroys magical armor and silences those within a cone from the player.
- Grasp of the Starved - Summons an AOE of undead arms out of the ground that deals 250% damage and sets cripple on characters without physical armor.
- Black Shroud - Summons a cloud of cursed smoke that setting suffocation and blinding.
- Raise Bone Widow - Summons a spider made of bones that lasts four rounds.
- Blood Storm - Summons an AOE of blood blobs down dealing 100% physical damage and setting decay and disease on enemies without physical armor.
- Raise Bloated Corpse - Raises a fleshy blob out of a corpse on the battlefield for the player.
- Living on the Edge - Target resists death for the next two rounds.
Depending on playstyle, the player can add any of these skill lines, a mixture, or none at all. Just using the base skill lines is still a very viable option for players who want to stay as a pure mage. What skills in the pyrokinetic and geomancer skill line are the best?
Pyrokinetic:
- Ignition - AOE around the player that deals 60% fire damage.
- Spontaneous Combustion - Deals 100% fire damage to a target character.
- Fireball - Throw down a targeted AOE that deals 130% fire damage.
- Bleed Fire - Curse a targeted enemy to bleed fire every time they are hit in the next three rounds.
- Summon Fire Slug - Summons a fire slug to fight by the player's side.
- Supernova - Large AOE based around the player dealing 150% fire damage.
- Lazer Ray - Deals 160% fire damage in a line.
- Flaming Crescendo - Causes a targeted enemy to explode within the next round or when they die.
- Firebrand - Gives the player's weapon an extra bit of fire damage for two rounds.
- Corpse Explosion - Targets a corpse to explode dealing 250% physical damage.
- Throw Explosive Trap - Targeted AOE that will explode within the next round if walked into.
- Meteor Shower - Targeted AOE causing 25 fireballs to come down from the sky each dealing 120% fire damage.
- The Epidemic of Fire - Targeted AOE summons necrofire that deals 240% fire damage for two rounds.
- Sabotage - Detonates any explosives on the targeted character.
Geomancer:
- Contamination - AOE based around the player that deals 55% poison damage. Can also turn water, blood, and clouds into poison.
- Fossil Strike - Targeted AOE throws a rock dealing 85% earth damage and leaving behind a puddle of oil.
- Poison Dart - Targeted attack dealing 110% poison damage.
- Impalement - Targeted AOE that pulls spikes out of the ground dealing 100% earth damage and crippling those without physical armor.
- Acid Spores - Hurls acid spores dealing 90% poison damage setting poisoned for three rounds.
- Summon Artillery Plant - Summons a moving plant that can hurl acid spores.
- Poison Wave - AOE based around the player dealing 100% poison damage forming poison clouds and giving the player earth immunity for one round.
- Living Wall - Summons a living wall out of the ground that emits poison clouds.
- Worm Tremor - AOE that summons poisonous worms out of the ground deals 50% earth damage, all characters within the space without magic armor will also take 30% poison damage.
- Venomous Aura - AOE support skill that gives the player and all allies within the space an added poison damage to all their attacks for four rounds.
Attributes, Combat Abilities, Civil Abilities and Talents Worth Investing in for a Wizard in Divinity: Original Sin II
Attributes, Combat Abilities, Civil Abilities, and Talents are all the other things players have to decide on when leveling up. Attributes are the main points that decide what a player is capable of using and learning. Combat Abilities affect the effectiveness of skill lines, weapons, and defensive tactics. Civil abilities affect playable actions outside of combat. Talents are used both in and out of combat and are useful in a multitude of ways.
The attributes are broken down into Strength, Finesse, Intelligence, Constitution, Memory, and Wits. For the Wizard, Intelligence and Memory are the most important of these to dump points into. Intelligence will cause all magic-based abilities to deal a higher percentage of damage, while Memory will give them the ability to learn more skills at once. If the player wants to use a more aggressive playstyle they should consider investing a few points into Strength and Constitution as well as it will help them deal more melee damage and stay alive a little longer.
For combat abilities, the player will want to invest most of their points into the skill lines that they have chosen as that will affect their damage and healing bonuses with those skills. Otherwise, the player should invest in the Perseverance defensive tactic to help them resist being stunned or put out of the fight several times in a row and whichever weapon they choose to use.
In civil abilities, if the player is making their main character the wizard they should invest in persuasion as it has a large impact on what the player can accomplish throughout. If not, the loremaster and telekinesis abilities are useful for moving heavy objects on a weak character and identifying armor and weapons found on the battlefield.
Talents:
- Demon - Grants the player a 15% fire resistance and a 15% water weakness. Increases max fire resistance to 10.
- Duck Duck Goose - Lets the player evade attacks of opportunity.
- Escapist - Lets the player escape a fight without needing to build a distance between themselves and the enemy.
- Far Out Man - Grants the player an extra two meters of distance to shoot spells.
- Glass Cannon - Grants the player full AP every round.
- Stench - Keeps enemies from attacking the player first.
