battery failure message after replaced both batteries
- Quote
#1 Postby newmanm » Sun Jul 07, 2024 12:28 pm
I replaced both batteries. I was/am getting a message:
The battery reports a failure and needs to be replaced as soon as possible. The charging and discharging functions of the battery have been disabled for safety reasons.
I have tried the pin-hole reset. I have tried holding down the power button for 30 sec on boot-up.
it looks like both batteries are charging.

X1 Carbon 5th Gen
I'm getting the same message after installing. Quick history...replaced original battery 8 months ago with Lenovo sourced "new battery" (wasn't OEM). I ran a battery gauge reset cycle around February...and the first time I saw the battery failure message was about a month or so ago...I think it was near a recent update of Lenovo Vantage. The battery full charge capacity for the replacement had dropped from 57Wh to about 46Wh in 8 months of use which I felt was a bit high. For fun I installed the old OEM battery and got the same message.
As I travel quite a bit for work I decided to replace the Lenovo sourced battery with a Lenovo OEM battery this past week...I installed this new battery this morning and the battery failure message is still there...even though the Full Charge Capacity = Design Capacity of 57 Wh.
My guess is that this version of Lenovo Vantage has a bug given that the battery failure message only showed up in the last month or so soon after the update. I downloaded and reinstalled Vantage...but that didn't help. When I run Lenovo diagnostics for the battery...there is not indication of any battery issue.

that sounds about right. I noticed there was a slight difference in interface with the Lenovo Vantage. I want to say that the task bar battery popup changed a little bit. hopefully they will do a bug fix.

Thank you! Lenovo Commercial Vantage installation worked. I downloaded the full Admin bundle and reading the installation guide found out you can download Vantage on its own directly from Microsoft Store here:
"Commercial Vantage is a Windows 10 Modern Application that can be installed directly from the Microsoft Store":

I'll bet that Lenovo battery replacement sales have spiked since this Vantage "update"...they didn't get my $$ as they were out of stock for all X1 batteries that fit my machine and the previous non-OEM replacement they provided was trash ... so bought my new one from somewhere else.
